UHW apologises for wrong diagnosis of six year old boy

University Hospital Waterford have apologised to the parents of a six year old boy left brain damaged after an incorrect diagnosis from doctors.

The High Court have approved an interim settlement of 2 and a half million euro in the case of Eoghan Keating from Upper Dunhill, County Waterford.

They misidentified an infection from chicken pox four years ago which led to sepsis.

In court, lawyers for the hospital read a statement apologising for the "deficiencies in care provided to Eoghan".

His parents Martina and Larry acknowledged the apology but said the price their son had paid was far too high.

Eoghan is now unable to walk, speak or see and is dependent on others for all his needs.
