Urgent appeal launched for dog blood donations

An urgent appeal for dog blood donors has been made by UCD's Vet Hospital.

To be eligible your canine pal needs to weigh over 25kg, be between one and eight years old, be healthy, have a good temperament, be fully vaccinated and wormed, and have not travelled outside Ireland or the UK.

Accidents and surgery are some of the reasons why dogs need transfusions and just like humans, they also have blood types.

People are being asked to contact UCD's vet blood donor clinic.

While UCD is specifically looking for dogs from Dublin, those outside the capital are encouraged to offer a donation through their local vet.
