Verona Murphy has apologised for comments she made about asylum seekers.

The Wexford By-election candidate has faced backlash after she said some asylum seekers coming to Ireland should be "deprogrammed."

The Fine Gael representative told a national radio show that asylum seekers shouldn't be accommodated in direct provision centres where support services are not readily available.

Verona Murphy said last night that it was a very poor choice of words and apologised to anyone who was offended.
