Victim of Kilkenny murder named locally

A murder investigation's under way following the stabbing of a man in Co Kilkenny.

The 40-year-old victim, who has been named locally as John Cash, was attacked on the Hebron Road yesterday afternoon.

A man in his 20s remains in custody this morning in connection with the incident.

Journalist with the Irish Independent, Robin Schiller, says Mr Cash was stabbed a number of times with a steak knife:

"At this stage, we believe the man was walking on the street when he was approached by another male known to him, well known to him in fact."

"He was stabbed at least 3 times with what Gardaí believe was a steak knife."

"The man has been named locally as John Cash, who's originally from the West Dublin area, but he is known to the suspect, and a 28-year-old man is in custody in Kilkenny Garda Station, in relation to this fatal assault."
