The money raised today will go towards developing the sport, competition and health programmes available to all athletes. There are 9,100 athletes participating in 15 sports in 360 clubs around the country all year round. Last year, 88 athletes competed at the World Games in Los Angeles bringing home 82 medals.

Organisers are aiming to raise €650,000 in 24 hours across Ireland. Special Olympics Ireland is determined that every person with an Intellectual Disability on the island who wishes to be involved in sport is given the opportunity to join a Special Olympics sports club in their local community.
