A Christmas shopping survey from eBay has shown Waterford to be the most generous county this Christmas.

The survey found that Irish shoppers are spending less on Christmas presents this year. The average person will spend €270 on gifts - down from €296 last year.

Waterford comes out as the most generous county this year with a whopping average spend of €335 per person - while the people of Monaghan are expected to spend the least at €211 per person.

Overall, Irish people will buy a total average of nine presents for loved ones this year - that's a decrease from the total average of 14 presents last year.

According to the e-commerce site, people in Laois will buy the highest number of presents - while Galwegians will buy the lowest amount of individual presents.
