Waterford man and his washing machine return from Kilimanjaro climb

A Waterford school teacher climbing Kilimanjaro with a washing machine on his back didn't make it to the top of the mountain, but the kitchen appliance did.

Enda O'Doherty had to turn back just three hours from the summit when he became unwell due to altitude sickness.

But the 49-year-old's team made sure the washing machine still made it to the top.

He said it perfectly captured his 'share the load' message, "I got really bad altitude sickness on Day 2 - it was 6 days up and 2 days down.

I still had 4 days of a tough climb ahead of me which really put me under pressure.

But I mean our sticker on the side of the washing machine is "share the load, ask for help"

I didn't think so quickly that a mental health message would turn into a practical thing for me, I had to get help, you know."
