Waterford winner celebrates four-figure windfall from €5 lotto wager

The luck was in for a County Waterford punter when they went into the weekend with a four-figure cash boost thanks to just three Lotto numbers.

The anonymous winner hit the road to riches by taking a €5 flutter in a BoyleSports shop in the county, picking just three numbers to land in the EuroMillions Plus draw on Friday evening.

They pinned their hopes on numbers 17, 21 and 33, with the chances of all three coming out rated at 1,500/1.

But the odds soon tumbled when the balls rolled out and when the bet clicked, the value of the €5 betslip rocketed up to a whopping €7,505.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Fair play to our customer in County Waterford for picking up a profit of €7,500 from just three numbers. They were ambitious enough to take on the 1,500/1 odds and we have to congratulate them for dreaming big and bagging the cash.”

Waterford seems to be a very lucky county, as just in July of last another lucky punter from the Déise bagged themselves a lucky penny on a €2 lotto flutter.

The anonymous customer entered a BoyleSports shop in the county to place two €1 bets on four numbers to come out in the main Irish Lotto draw.

The first wager was banking on numbers 7, 9, 12 and 15 and all four rolled out to beat odds of 3,800/1 and bag a return of €3,801.

But the lucky winner doubled their haul with another €1 flutter on numbers 3, 7, 9 and 12, meaning they were able to return to the shop and collect a grand total of €7,602 from their modest investment.
