Wexford General Hospital has announced a partner visitor ban to stop the spread of Covid-19.

The visitor ban came into force earlier today. However, partners will still be allowed into the delivery room.

In a statement, the hospital said "Wexford General Hospital has implemented a partner visitor ban in the Antenatal or Postnatal Suites in the hospital. The hospital understands that this may cause distress to both parents, but the ban is being imposed in order to protect mothers and their new born babies as well as all staff and other patients within the hospital."

"Partners continue to be allowed into the delivery room. We ask all new parents to understand the need for this ban and we know how difficult this escalated visitor ban may be."
