Wexford's 1916 commemorations take place today

Co Wexford will hold it's biggest event as part of the 1916 Centenery programme today

Over 10,000 people are expected to line the streets of Enniscorthy for the commemorations.

The action gets underway at 11:30 with an official wreath-laying ceremony taking place at 1:15, as well as in other areas around the country such as Athenry, Cork and Ashbourne, to coincide with the time the first shots of the Rising were fired.

'There will be up to 1,000 participants taking part in the parade'

'The State ceremony proper will commence at 12:30, which will include a reading of the Proclamation by an officer of the Defence Forces, a wreath laying ceremony by members of the Irish Government and the playing of the National Anthem with an Air Corps fly-over'
