Youth Homeless not a surprise, says Good Shepherd chief

Focus Ireland is reporting an increase of almost eighty per cent in the number of young people becoming homeless in the last three years.

The charity is describing those aged between 18 and 24 who are living on the streets as the 'forgotten homeless'.

Fergus Keane is the manager of the Good Shepherd Centre in Kilkenny.

He says the figures aren't surprising.

"It doesn't come as a surprise to me when reports come out to say that there is a problem with youth homelessness."

"They are a very vulnerable group because of their age, lack of work or if they are working the wages aren't great."

"Then you have people who are leaving care or leaving institutions as well that would come under that category."
