Zeminar empowers young people

A 3 day seminar aimed at 15 to 20 year olds is continuing in the capital.

Young people from across the south east have been attending Zeminar - aimed at Generation Z.

It's set to be the largest youth-focused gathering ever seen in Ireland.

The event is a new social enterprise bringing people invested in the development and well being of young people to one place.

Zeminar aims to will provide a supportive and innovative environment to highlight and address what really matters to young people here today.

The objective is to recognise the importance of this demographic in society and to provide them with a space where they can inform themselves on issues of interest, and come away feeling confident that they can make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others.

USI President Annie Hoey was speaking at Zeminar earlier.

She outlined some of the main challenges faced by young people to Beat News:

"There are so many opportunities and options out there that sometimes I think that we're not sure where to go or what to do - and to find our niche because everyone on social media seems to know their niche.

It took me years to find out what I wanted to do and how to get involved and how to actually empower myself to do that.

And I wish I could go back and tell my younger self that it's ok, I don't need to be frantically on this rat race to find who I am, this 'zen like being that I need to be' isn't necessarily the end goal, it's about the journey.

But there are so many options out there it can seem overwhelming sometimes."

Zeminar runs until Thursday 13th October, http://www.zeminar.ie/
