Waterford’s Craig Breen kicked off his 2017 World Rally Championship campaign in style at the Rallye Monte Carlo over the weekend. Breen, driving the Citroen DS3, or ‘Old Lady’ as the team like to call it, was running near the front of the event the entire weekend and went into Sunday’s final day in fourth place overall and went on to finish the rally in fifth place.

Breen was the leading Citroen driver in Monte Carlo and now the attention switches to Sweden next month where Breen will join team mate’s Kris Meeke and Stephane Lefebvre with the new C3 WRC.

Speaking about the event, Citroen Racing team principal Yves Matton commented by saying:

"Nothing really went as planned during this race. And yet, we thought we could have a good weekend after some pleasing tests for the drivers and the team. In the early stages of the race, both Stéphane and Kris made mistakes and from that point onwards, we could no longer aim for a significant final result. We also had some difficulties in finding the right set-up for these very specific conditions, the likes of which we hadn’t faced in testing. We’ve only just started to run the C3 WRC and we still have a lot of work ahead of us."
