Lee Chin - Wexford

The businessman who racially abused Lee Chin during Wexford's challenge game against Tipperary has been given a 48-week suspension.

The incident occurred in the final moments of the fixture on April 8th, following a melee between the two teams.

It is understood that the sanction was proposed earlier this week, with the spectator now presented with an opportunity to appeal.

Following the incident, referee John Keenan opted to end the game amidst a ferocious backlash from several of  Chin’s teammates.

After analysis of Keenan's report, in addition to the video evidence of the abuse, the punishment has been handed down by the Central Competitions Control Committee.

As reported by the Irish examiner, the man, in his 50s, has since written a letter of apology to the Wexford star.

The GAA passed new anti-racism rules earlier this year specifying that any "act, deed, word or gesture of a racist nature" will automatically carry a 48-week suspension.

Should the man partake in training or education, the ban can reportedly be reduced to 24 weeks.

Micheál Martin - chairperson of the Wexford County Board - has previously said there is no place for racism in our games or society.

"We don't tolerate this," he said to local radio.

"Lee gives his time so generously for club and county, and the community I would say as well.

"The simple answer is he should not be subjected to this, and we will ensure by working with the Tipperary GAA that this is dealt with in the proper manner."
