Craig Breen enjoys impressive outing at Rally Portugal

Ben from Paddock Eye reports:

Waterford’s Craig Breen had another impressive outing for the Citroen Racing WRC team in Rally Portugal over the weekend, as he came away from the event with a fifth place finish and was the leading driver of the four C3 WRC’s entered into the event.

Speaking following the event, Craig said it’s been another good weekend for us.

Breen felt that his lack of experience in Portugal hindered his overall performance in the rally, and were it not for the fact that he hit a rock on SS7 breaking a damper, he and co-driver, Paul Nagle, would have taken the overall lead of the rally.

Breen has competed in five of the six events so far in the 2017 WRC season and in four of those events he has finished in fifth place.

Heading to the next rally in Italy, Breen is the leading Citroen driver in the standings as he lies in seventh place in the World Rally Championship table on 43 points.

Citroen team principal, Yves Matton, believes that the work that the outfit and Craig Breen have done during testing has been extremely beneficial in enabling the French manufacturer to move forward this season, in what is their first full-time season back in the World Rally Championship.

Breen’s next event is the Rally Italia Sardegna which takes place from June 8-11.
