FAI has 'set aside' ban of Rover fans as Waterford's RSC firework incident resolved

Shamrock Rovers will play their first SSE Airtricity League Premier Division fixture of the new season in front of fans.

The FAI has 'set aside' its decision which had stated that the fixture against UCD at Tallaght Stadium on Friday week be played behind closed doors.

Instead, Shamrock Rovers will now have their fine increased to €5,000.

The ban on supporters attending had been put in place following a fireworks incident at a match between the Hoops and Waterford at the RSC last year.

Two men were arrested after a group of supporters set off fireworks at the game.

A number of the fireworks were thrown into the air over the pitch before exploding, causing an injury to Waterford player Anthony Wordsworth, and the postponement of the game by referee Rob Hennessey.
