Wexford Youths Women voted May winners of South East Sports Star Award

Wexford Youths Women FC have been named the May winner of the South East Sports Star Award with Beat 102-103 and Mount Wolseley Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort, Tullow Co. Carlow.

The Youths were nominated for the award after they retained the Continental Tyres Women's National League, defeating Shelbourne Ladies in a playoff. A brace by Claire O'Riordan saw the girls battle back from a goal down to claim the title at Tallaght Stadium.

The result means the Youths are in the qualifying stages for the Women's Champions League for the second year running, and this year the games will be played in the South East, at Ferrycarrig Park and the Regional Sports Centre.

The girls came out on top after a week of voting, beating the other nominees Carlow sailor Finn Lynch, Kilkenny modern pentathlete Arthur Lanigan O'Keeffe, St. Michael's AFC in Tipperary, and Waterford golfer Seamus Power.

Wexford Youths Women are the second monthly winners from the Model County in 2016, after kickboxer Dale White claimed the April award. The Youths will now go on as nominees for the 2016 South East Sports Star of the Year Award, which will be announced at the big awards night in Mount Wolseley early next year.
