Looking for book recommendations for the Winter Season? Well, look no further.

Tracy McEnaney, executive librarian at Waterford City and County Council was in with Orla and the Sunday Grill this weekend.

She has some great suggestions if you fancy gifting a novel or simply avoiding family and friends and turkey by curling up with a good book.

Remember, books can be reserved at your local library if you want a good read for yourself for free.

But if you’re buying a book as a Christmas gift, it's great to buy at your local, independent bookstore.

Fiction

"Snowflake" by Louise Nealon. Although it was published in May 2021, the book is the One Dublin One Book novel for 2024.

If you fancy the audio version, it is narrated by Louisa Harland who played Orla McCool in Derry Girls.

"Strange Sally Diamond" by Liz Nugent. It's the fifth book from Liz Nugent and published earlier this year.  It won the Irish Book Awards – Crime Fiction Book of the Year

"So Late in the Day" by Claire Keegan. Just 55 pages long, three short stories from the author who was shortlisted for the Booker Prize last year.

"Bee Sting" by Paul Murray. Shortlisted for the Booker Prize this year and at 600+ pages long this family drama will keep you going all over Christmas. Booker Prize winner Prophet Song Paul Lynch - set in the future where the far right are in control – this book will make you cry.

"Ordinary Human Failings" by Waterford author Megan Nolan who returns with her second novel about lies, deceit and loss.

Young Adult

"Big Bad Me" by Aislinn McLoughlin. Teenage werewolves and vampires. Evie Wilder just found out she's a werewolf. - her mom's gone missing, she has to go into hiding, and there's not a single helpful vampire slayer to be found.
