Significant increase in mobile calls & data usage in EU following abolition of roaming charges

There has been a significant increase in mobile calls and data usage by European citizens travelling in the EU, according to a new report from the European Commission.

Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune said: “It is now a year and a half since the abolition of roaming charges and the report said the use of mobile data has grown five times on average compared to the levels before June 2017.

The number of phone calls made by travellers across Europe has roughly doubled compared to the previous period”, she said.

The details are contained in the European Commission's Interim report on the effects of the end of roaming charges on 15 June 2017.
