Halligan supports Fianna Fail-Fine Gael coalition

Waterford TD John Halligan says that neither he, nor any other member of the Independent Alliance have given a commitment to form part of a coalition with Fine Gael or Fianna Fail.

His comments come following reports in yesterday's Sunday Times and Independent that the big two parties had courted members of the grouping in order to form a minority government.

Deputy Halligan along with Michael Fitzmaurice and Kevin 'Boxer' Moran were some of those named as being potentially supportive of a deal.

John Halligan says nothing has been decided yet, but that they are open to discussion:

"The electorate have spoken, it's a duty of us to do our very best to try and form a Government. There's no majority party in the Dail.

Both Fianna Fail and Fine Gael are speaking to Independents, we've had ongoing intensive meetings over the last number of weeks and they'll continue.

We don't know where we are at present, we haven't seen any comprehensive programmes for Government, we believe we will over the next week.

And we'll make a decision then based on we what get from both of the big parties. But ultimately what I still think is the best thing for the country is a coalition of both Fianna Fail and Fine Gael."
