The Driver Theory Test Service is currently providing remote theory tests for bus, truck, CPC and ADI categories.

Speaking to Beat News Tipperary TD Martin Browne says it is essential that it is expanded now to those learning to drive a car:

"That once them theory tests are passed, you have that cohort of drivers now aswell going to add to the problem."

"They need to hire more staff, and it needs to be 24 hours a day now at this stage"

Over 3,000 people are waiting for a driving test in Tipperary alone.

Deputy Browne says it's a huge issue for people in rural areas:

"Most of the employment now is being drawn into the big urban areas.....as far as I'm concerned, it's an attack on rural Ireland."

"The problem has increased 70% since June of last year, and it's likely going to go over 100,000 people this year waiting on driving tests."
