There's growing criticism of police in Texas over their handling of a school shooting, in which 19 children and 2 teachers were killed.

It's emerged the gunman entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde and spent an hour inside a classroom without being confronted by authorities.

Meanwhile there's concern that the National Rifle Association is due to hold it's annual conference in Houston, Texas this weekend, just days after the state's deadliest school massacre.

Reporter with the Houston Chronicle, Nora Mishanec, says the city has refused calls to ban the event and the atmosphere is like a 'tinderbox'.

She says, ' Its a meeting of the largest gun lobby here in the United States so for many this conference is a symbol of everything that is wrong with our gun policies here in the US.'
