Wexford Youths on the road in SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division

Stephen Quinn's Wexford Youths are in the capital to face Shamrock Rovers in the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division this evening.

Both sides have had a week of extra preparation following their inactivity in the previous game week.

Wexford comes into the fixture with two wins from two games played, previously enjoying a 3-1 victory over Sligo in Ferrycarrig Park.

Michaela Lawrence opened the scoring on the 21' with her first senior goal for Quinn's side.

Sarah Kiernan silenced the home crowd after 50', drawing Sligo level and setting the tone for an exciting finale.

Rianna Jarrett put Quinn's side back in front on her return to Ferrycarrig with a goal on the 70'.

Emily Corbet sealed the three points 6 minutes later when she found the net with her first goal of the season.

It was a special evening for Jarrett, as she became a goal centurion. Speaking afterwards, she was delighted to tick that box.

"For me, personally, it's nice to get my goal tally started for the season and obviously to get that 100th goal is extra special," she said.

"Shout out to Eddie Cullen who hasn't let leave it down since the day I left Wexford, telling me I left on 99 goals!

"Obviously to get over the line with that."

Tonight's hosts have started their season well and earned seven points from a possible nine.

It’s been close to a decade since the clubs met in the Women’s League of Ireland, with Wexford beating Rovers 2-1 in Tallaght in November 2013.

Speaking to Shaun Connolly from Beat Sport, Stephen Quinn can not wait to reignite their rivalry.

"We are looking forward to tonight's game in Tallaght," he said.

"It's been a stop-start kind of season so far, with everyone eager to get back on the pitch.

"Tonight will be a big test for us, but one that we will relish."

The action gets underway at Tallaght Stadium at 7.45 pm. You can also watch it live on LOITV.
