Emergency funding granted for Waterford airport

Waterford airport is to receive emergency funding of €375,000 to assist with ongoing operational costs.

The airport is not eligible for its 2018 operational funding from the department of transport because it hasn't had commercial flights since 2016.

A development plan valued at €5m has already been submitted by Waterford airport and includes a runway extension.

For the moment - the emergency funding will ensure the airport can continue to facilitate the Irish Coast Guard station.
