Gardaí urge mother of baby found on Dublin beach to come forward

Gardaí are urging the mother of a baby whose body was found on a Dublin beach, to make herself known.

The newborn, who has been named Belle, was found wrapped in a cloth in Balbriggan on Saturday morning.

A post-mortem revealed that the baby was stillborn.

Gardaí are satisfied that there is no need for a criminal investigation.

Sgt. Fiona Savidge of Balbriggan Garda Station says they just want to make sure the mother is safe.

"The primary concern is the health, welfare and medical assistance that can be offered to Belle's mam.

"I also want to just say that the safety of Belle's mam is of paramount importance."
