A GAA pitch in the south east was destroyed last night when a jeep was driven back and forth through it.

The Thomastown GAA pitch was especially susceptible to damage due to the rainy conditions in previous days.

Chairperson of the club, Ger Walsh spoke with Beat News about the incident saying that a club member had contacted him around 7pm yesterday evening to report that there was a jeep in the middle of the juvenile pitch.

When the club member went over to investigate, the perpetrators fled the scene.

It was then discovered that the main GAA pitch had been destroyed by the vehicle.

One of the jeep's licence plates fell off and a credit card was found at the scene of the incident.

The items have since been handed over to the Gardaí who will further investigate the vandalism.

Those who have information are urged to contact Thomastown Garda Station on 056 775 4150.
