Road in Carlow remains closed after pedestrian struck by truck

A pedestrian remains in a critical condition after a collision involving a truck in the centre of Carlow town.

Kennedy Avenue in the town centre remains closed following the incident involving a pedestrian last night.

A man was hit by a truck yesterday evening at around 5pm on Kennedy Avenue at the junction with Barrack Street.

According to reports in the Irish Independent the man, in his mid-40s, suffered severe head injuries.

Several people are reported to have rushed to his aid after the incident.

A local nurse and passing doctor are believed to have administered medical care to the man.

He was taken to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny where he is described as being in a critical condition.

The road remained closed overnight and is to be examined today.

The area between the Potato Market and Barrack St remains closed this morning and diversions are in place.
