Safety concerns raised for people working in nail bars

Concern has been raised over the safety of people working in nail bars, with many exposed to hazardous chemicals on a daily basis.

The Health and Safety Authority says along with the increased risk of skin and respiratory problems, these could damage fertility and cause cancer.

An inspection programme carried out last year found an overall poor understanding of chemical safety in nail bars, and their potential to cause ill health to employees.

The Sunday Times report that the HSA will soon publish a guidance document to advise nail bar staff of the health risks.
