Sport Minister defends John Delaney's presence in Tipperary with Labour TD

The Minister for Sport says he's confident that the head of the FAI wouldn't use his position to canvass for ANY politician.

The Sunday Times reports John Delaney was out on the hustings in Tipperary with Minister for Environment Alan Kelly last Friday.

The newspaper claims Mr Delaney - who is from the county - visited a number of clubs and towns in the constituency with the Labour TD.

Minister Paschal Donohoe says he'd like to know more:

'It would be very important to me and I would expect this to happen that anybody who leads up an organisation that's funded with tax-payers money would not be advocating for any politcal party'

He added 'I deal with the FAI and other sporting bodies very regularly, and I would be confident that John or anybody else would not do that'.
