'There is love and help out there' - LGBT Ireland

LGBT Ireland says supports must be focused on people who are isolated from the community or are new to the country.

It follows the killing of two gay men, Michael Snee and Aidan Moffitt, in Sligo this week.

22-year-old Yousef Palani with an address at Markievicz Heights in Sligo has been charged with their murders.

A number of vigils took place last night in memory of the pair, and in support of the wider LGBTQ plus community.

LGBT Ireland spokesman James O'Hagan, says it needs to be made clear to anyone who is isolated from supports that there is love and help out there.

Statement by President Michael D. Higgins

The President says members of the LGBTQ plus community are faced with homophobic comments and slurs 'far too regularly'.

Michael D Higgins says it is 'heartbreaking' that some in the community are uncomfortable holding hands in public.

He's called on the public to do better in accepting expressions of a person's sexuality socially as it is accepted in law.

The President has also asked communities to consider what individual and collective actions can be taken to provide a free, diverse and inclusive society.
