The Deputy Mayor of Waterford City and County Council has died.
James Tobin passed away suddenly over the weekend.
The Fianna Fáil councillor was only elected to the role last Thursday. Speaking to a local radio station, Mayor John O'Leary says it's devastating:
His own wife only died in the last year and a half and James was really just starting to come around from that and I know he'd be glad to meet Anne as his resting place.
The HSE/South Community Healthcare have also expressed their sadness at the passing of Deputy Mayor Tobin as in a statement released today, Chief Officer of HSE/South East Community Healthcare Kate Killeen White says:
Cllr. James Tobin’s contribution as a Forum member was a valued one and she extends her sympathies and those of the HSE to his family and many friends.
Cllr. James Tobin was a member of the HSE Regional Health Forum South and was first elected to Waterford County Council in 1999. He became the first Mayor of Waterford City and County Council upon those local authorities’ amalgamation in 2014.
