Hit TV series Line of Duty is said to be returning, promising the finale viewers were deprived of.

The Irish Sun reports that Adrian Dunbar (Ted Hastings), Martin Compton(Steve Arnott) and Vicky Mclure (Kate Fleming) are on board for a three-part BBC special.

Fans of the show felt hard done by with season six, and the underwhelming reveal of criminal mastermind "H".

Many felt it couldn't possibly be the end of AC-12, when previous seasons were far more complex and climactic.

Speaking to The Irish Sun, an unnamed TV source said "there was a very strong feeling, particularly among fans, that there was unfinished business with Line of Duty. Viewers weren't satisfied with the ending of series six and were crying out for a more sensational conclusion-now Jed can deliver that."

Line of Duty writer, Jed Mercurio, previously defined the series finale saying he knew "it wouldn't appeal to everyone." He has not ever officially denied a return to the blockbuster show.

Adrian Dunbar and Vicky Mclure are currently committed to other shows, as such it may be some time before a spin-off finale arrives.

The Irish Sun reports that the three-part finale could arrive as soon as Christmas 2024.
