Calls for teachers to be protected from lobbying over Leaving Cert marks

The Teachers Union of Ireland is calling on the Department of Education to bring in a protocol to protect teachers from lobbying over Leaving Cert marks.

It's after the TUI and the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland both backed replacing this year's Leaving Cert exams with calculated grades.

The Teachers Union of Ireland says it's vital safeguards are brought in to ensure educators' professional integrity is protected.

Its general secretary, John McGabhann, says they want steps taken to deter lobbying.
