Fuel prices to reach a record high

Diesel could hit 2 euro per litre in the coming days.

That's according to a fuel survey by the Irish Independent, who say prices are expected to reach a record high within the next week.

The average price of diesel at the moment is €1.95 nationwide - the figure in Dublin is 2 cent higher.

By comparison, April’s national average diesel prices stood at €1.90 per litre and €1.80 for petrol.

While national petrol prices remain relatively stable, they too have notably risen, by 6c per litre over the past four weeks.

The reduction on fuel prices ordered by the Cabinet in March has almost been wiped out as prices continue to soar.

Paddy Comyn, of AA Ireland, warned that fuel prices were likely to continue to rise for the foreseeable future.

Ireland faces the highest inflation rate in decades.
