Health Committee recommends vapes not to be sold to under 18s

An Oireachtas Health Committee has recommended vapes should not be sold to under 18s.

It also says state funding to support those quitting cigarettes should be substantially increased.

Along with the age restriction and new supports, the committee recommends that the harms associated with vaping be communicated to the public in a simple and effective manner.

One major recommendation is the regulation of vape flavours, the committee seeks to prohibit all flavours except for tobacco, as to not entice children into buying them.

The committee is also aiming to introduce plain packaging, as we've seen with tobacco products, and a ban on all forms of vape advertisements.

It says the Health Research Board should continue to review scientific evidence surrounding all nictonie products, and that vapes should only be sold from counters in retail settings.
