Anne Marie Canavan celebrates with family as she collects her prize worth €134,357 from National Lottery HQ on Thursday 27th of October

An Irish cancer survivor has revealed her inspiring recovery story as she collected her massive winnings at Lotto headquarters today.

Anne Marie Canavan from Westmeath brought her family to National Lottery HQ to celebrate the big win and collect her jackpot win totalling €134,357.

The 46-year-old revealed that in 2018 she underwent a double mastectomy before falling into a coma after contracting pneumonia the following year.

Thankfully, the mature student is now cancer free and is in the process of completing a course in senior care.

She revealed how she found out she was in possession of the winning ticket:  “I’ve returned to education and I’m currently doing a course in care skills. I thought it was like any other ordinary Monday morning, but then my tutor asked me if I knew the winner in Kilbeggan from Saturday night’s Lotto.

"It then dawned on me – I had never checked my own ticket! I ran out to my car, grabbed the ticket and returned to the classroom. I called out my numbers while another classmate checked them online. Everyone had gathered around me in such suspense. Well, the floor nearly collapsed with all the cheering and jumping around when we discovered I was the winner!" she said.

Ms Canavan, purchased her winning quick pick Lotto ticket worth €134,357 on the day of the draw at Whelan's in Kilbeggan, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

She revealed to the National Lottery how she hopes to spend her winnings: “I’ve had a rough couple of years health-wise, so I’m really looking forward to giving back to my family, who gave me so much strength and support during that time. I have three sisters, one brother and an amazing daughter. My mam has always dreamed of a brand-new car, so I hope to get her one”, she said.

Wexford Lotto Winner

That's not the only recent feel-good Lotto story. Last week it was revealed that a service station outside Gorey town in County Wexford sold Saturday's Lotto jackpot-winning ticket worth €2 million.

Canavan's Londis in Inch is a popular meeting spot on the old-Arklow road. Owners Martin and Catherine said at the time they were so excited they "could barely speak".

The numbers drawn during the draw were 7, 19, 24, 30, 36, 44 and the bonus number was 41. The successful play made it the third Lotto jackpot win in just four draws.
