Man found guilty of careless driving causing Waterford teenager's death

A 19-year-old man has been found guilty at the Circuit Criminal Court in Waterford of careless driving causing the death of a 16-year-old girl, and of careless driving causing serious harm to two of her friends.

Edward O'Shea of Magnh, Fenor, Co Waterford was remanded on bail until 26th February when a date for sentencing will be set.

The charges follow a road traffic accident at Cliff Road, Newtown Tramore on the 5th October, 2016.

Mr O'Shea entered guilty pleas to lesser charges of careless driving causing death and careless driving causing serious harm, but these were not accepted by the prosecution.

16-year-old Katie Murphy of Castlewoods, Ballinamona, Co Waterford died in crash, while Joseph Walsh and Jessica Flynn were injured.
