State of Emergency in Orlando following nightclub shooting which leaves 50 dead

Police in Florida say 50 people were killed and a further 53 were injured after a gunman opened fire at a nightclub in Orlando.

The suspect - who was also killed - has been named as Omar Mateen - a US citizen of Afghan descent from Port St Lucie.

State of emergency declared in Orlando.

The city's mayor Buddy Dyer, says help has already been offered by neighbouring states:

"Because of the scale of the crime, I've asked the Governor to declare a state of emergency.

"We're also issuing a state of emergency to Orlando so we can bring additional resources to bare with the aftermath."
