Co. Waterford town sees 541% growth in Airbnb staycations

Waterford is home to not one but two of the most popular places for Irish people to visit for Summer 2017.

That's according to the latest figures by Air BnB which saw Dungarvan and Ardmore take first and third place respectively.

Over half a million Air BnB visitors came to Ireland from June 1st to August 31st with a further 280 thousand Irish people staying in Air BnB accommodation.

Cllr. Damien Geoghegan, member of Waterford City and County Council says the increase in visitors can be seen across Dungarvan.

"It's been fantastic. From the visitors, we've been getting great feedback. They absolutely love the area.

"They've been full of nothing but praise for the (Waterford) Greenway itself and from what we have to offer here in Waterford.

"For too long Waterford was seen as a place maybe where people didn't visit. West Cork, Kerry and Galway have always seen large numbers but, you know, Waterford is very much in the game now".
