Wexford man in hospital after head on collision in Australia

Thomas O'Flaherty was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after the car he was driving collided with a lorry on a trip from Sydney to Brisbane.

The 27 year old is from Kilmore Quay in County Wexford.

He was alone in his car last Thursday when the incident happened.

His family have flown to be by his side at Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, New South Wales.

It's understood he's in a coma with extensive injuries but his vital signs are said to be improving.

Thomas has been living in Australia for the past four or five years, working as a medical engineer at a laboratory in Brisbane.
