Derek Lyng has been ratified as the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Manager. A three-year term has been agreed. Selectors and backroom team are to be confirmed later.

"Kilkenny County Board wishes Derek and Niall the very best of luck during the season ahead," the county board have released. They will not be issuing any further statement.

The appointment comes only 12 days after Brian Cody called time on his glittering career. Lyng won six All-Ireland senior medals before retiring in 2010, winning two all-star awards in 2002 and 2003.

The Emeralds clubman was selector for Kilkenny alongside Cody between 2014 and 2019 and part of the management team for the All-Ireland victories in 2014 and 2015.

Most recently, he served as the manager of the victorious U20 side that defeated Limerick by a point in Thurles in the All-Ireland final.
