Ronaldo returns to first-team training duties

Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to training with the Manchester United first team.

The Portugal forward was dropped for Saturday's 1-1 draw at Chelsea in the Premier League after refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham.

He appears to have served his ban and is now part of the squad for Thursday's Europa League encounter with Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol.

According to Sky Sports News, "Erik ten Hag and Cristiano Ronaldo have been in constant dialogue.

"There were no showdown talks at Carrington today.

"The manager's focus is on preparing the squad for Thursday and Cristiano, they say, is part of that.

"Erik ten Hag feels that the player has served his punishment and wants to move forward with the whole group pulling in the same direction."

The issue initially surfaced when Ronaldo was named on the bench against Tottenham Hotspur and saw his teammates take control without him.

Ten Hag had made it clear that he wanted to use the Portuguese as a late substitute, with the player refusing and marching down the tunnel instead.

Speaking at the time, the Dutchman said: “I want to keep the focus on the team, it was a magnificent performance from all the 11 players.

“It was a performance also from the subs that came on. It was a squad performance. We deal with that tomorrow."

Attention turns to a must-win game at Old Trafford on Thursday and the question of whether or not the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will feature.
