Sevilla seal last 16 spot with win over Lazio

Sevilla beat Lazio 2-0 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium to secure their place in the last 16 of the Europa League with a 3-0 aggregate win.

Wissam Ben Yedder, whose solitary goal in the first leg at the Olympic Stadium in Rome last week had given Sevilla the advantage, fired his side into a half-time lead and Pablo Sarabia struck the decisive second late in the game.

Both sides finished the game with 10 men following the second-half dismissals of Sevilla midfielder Franco Vazquez and Lazio winger Adam Marusic.

Ben Yedder gave Sevilla a 1-0 lead on the night in the 20th minute when he turned home a rebound after Sarabia's shot had been saved by Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.

Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic both threatened for Lazio just before the interval and, 10 minutes into the second half, Francesco Acerbi forced Sevilla goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik into a decent save.

Lazio striker Felipe Caicedo's long-range effort flew narrowly wide as the Italian side looked to reduce the deficit.

They were given further hope on the hour mark when Vazquez was shown a second yellow card for his foul on Romulo.

But Lazio's numerical advantage did not last long. Marusic's crude challenge on Roque Mesa 11 minutes later prompted a straight red from English referee Anthony Taylor.

Sevilla sealed their place in the last 16 with 12 minutes remaining when Sarabia raced clear on to Jesus Navas' through-ball and finished low into the bottom corner.
