"The centre-back becomes the latest signing by Danny Searle as the Blues continue to build ahead of the 2023 promotion push.

"The American has spent the last number of seasons playing with Aldershot Town, on loan before sealing a permanent deal.

"Phillips made 73 appearances, scoring four goals for Town. He previously spent time with Wycombe Wanderers and Queens Park Rangers.

"The 25-year-old came through the QPR Youth system having moved to the London club in 2017 from the United States. Searle and Phillips worked together previously at Aldershot Town."

Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie, Phillips said: "I am very excited to be here and excited to get going for the new season.

"I spoke to the gaffer and due to working with each other at Aldershot, we know each other well. He sold me the Waterford package – I can’t wait.

"I want to keep the goals out at the back, keep as many clean sheets are possible and help this club get back to the First Division.

"I have met some of the lads and they’ve been very welcoming so I just can’t wait to get going."

The club has recently announced plans for a pre-season trip to Dubai.

Provisional dates have been set for Sunday 22 January until Saturday 28 January.

Waterford begins the 2023 season on the road, with a trip to South East rivals Wexford FC on February 17.
