Following yesterday evening's shock announcement of Ian Ryan's resignation, Wexford FC are keen to act quickly in appointing his replacement.

Having finished the season sixth in the table, marginally missing out on a fifth-place play-off spot, the black and pink brigade had much optimism for next year's campaign.

Despite the setback, the club are keen to stabilise the ship and continue the momentum that has been created in the past 18 months.

The Wexford side immediately moved to reassure supporters of their continued vision for a successful promotion push.

A statement read: "The club had been well advanced in its plans to put together a squad made up of the core of last season's with a number of new additions so that we could mount a serious challenge for promotion in 2023.

"Despite this setback, this remains the plan and the process to appoint a new manager, with the ambition and potential to deliver this, will begin straight away."

Ryan had been the subject of continued rumours in recent months, with Waterford FC and Bohemians both previously keen on his acquisition.
