Wexford's Ciara Rossiter named WNL Player of the Month

Ciara Rossiter's tremendous form has been rewarded with the Player of the Month award for August/September.

The Wexford native has been integral for Wexford Youths, seeing them move four points clear at the top of the table.

The Slaneysiders are gunning for a first league title since 2018 and despite last weekend's cup disappointment against Athlone, confidence is high in the camp.

Rossiter has previously won a cap for Ireland in 2015 and her form has seen her name crop up in International conversations recently.

As reported by RTÉ Sports, the 26-year-old was delighted with the award.

"I certainly didn't expect it. I didn't expect to be nominated. I am very shocked that I won it to be honest," Rossiter told the SSE Airtricity League youtube channel.

"I scored four goals in the last five games. I don't really know how that happened because, at the start of the season, I couldn't score at all!

"The run of good form is down to our training sessions. We've been working on our finishing in training.

"After the mid-season break, we thought the title race had gone out a touch.

"I think we were 11 points behind Shelbourne at one stage. We didn't want to give up, we just focused on ourselves.

"There's still four massive games to go!"

Wexford Youths' quest for league domination continues on Saturday 1st, October and the opportunity for immediate revenge against Athlone Town.

Kick-off in Athlone Stadium is at 4:50 pm and will be broadcast live on TG4.

Speaking to Beat Sports, the Rathaspeck native is remaining calm. "There's no point in taking anything for granted; we just have to take it game-by-game," she said.

"Stephen and Lizzie are both very good at keeping us grounded and keeping us level-headed.

"This season has been unbelievable, I think the standard has really risen.

"I don't think there is any team you can underestimate."
