The Moyle Rovers clubman was nominated for the award after a sensational summer with the Premier as they qualified for the All-Ireland senior football semi-finals for the first time since 1935. After an impressive Munster campaign which saw them defeat Cork and narrowly lose to Kerry, Liam Kearns' side overcame Derry in the qualifiers before an amazing victory over Galway in the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

Peter has played an integral part in that success, leading the way in midfield and also contributing a number of points. On Sunday week he will lead his side out against Mayo in Croke Park where a win will see Tipp qualifiy for an All-Ireland first for the first time since 1920.

He came out on top in a week of voting on beat102103.com, beating the other nominees Carlow athlete Molly Scott, Kilkenny hurler Jonjo Farrell, Waterford rally driver Craig Breen, and Wexford hurler Conor McDonald.

Peter is the second Tipperary monthly winner of 2016 after horse trainer Mouse Morris won the March award, and he will now go on as a nominee for the South East Sports Star of the Year Award, which will be announced in Mount Wolseley in January 2017.

Beat is now taking nominations for the August award, so if you’ll like to nominate your favourite sports star email [email protected]. The five nominees will be announced on Sportsbeat Roundup in early September.
