Hoax bomb alerts at South East schools

Investigations have been launched following a series of hoax bomb alerts at schools across Ireland.

It's understood schools in Limerick, Dublin, Cork, Carlow and Waterford all received communications claiming that devices had been left at the buildings this morning.

In Waterford, Ursuline Primary School and St Angelas Secondary School in the city were both evacuated shortly after 10 o clock following advice by Gardai.

Students at the primary school were sent home while classes resumed for St Angela's at around lunchtime after the scene was declared safe.

There was a similar alert in Holy Family Girls National School in Askea in Carlow.

The PSNI has also begun investigations following seven similar alerts in the North this morning.

No devices have been found and all reports have been declared hoaxes.

Gardaí and the PSNI are liasing with each other as inquiries continue.
