16th Annual Imagine Arts Festival opens today in Waterford

The 16th annual Imagine Arts Festival opens today in Waterford City.

The opening of the Bernadette Kiely art exhibition at 6 pm at Greyfriars Gallery officially gets the 10-day festival underway.

Some 120 acts & performances are on offer throughout the festival period, with 58 of those events on offer free of charge at venues across the City from today until the 29th.

Festivalgoers are in for a treat on the opening weekend as hoards of Vikings and locals are set to take to the streets of The Apple Market on Sunday, October 22nd for what is sure to be the country's largest ever flour fight.

Free family fun is to the fore at the 16th annual Imagine Arts Festival as the free ‘Battle of the Blaa' is on offer at 1 pm. 

Organisers say "A theatrical reconstruction set in a ‘post-apocalyptic war-zone' will feature tonnes of flour, thousands of eggs and google wearing families ready for battle."

Music fans will be well catered for with Bill Ryder Jones of The Coral fame, Canadian Joey Wright, and Glastonbury favourites Yorkston Thorne Kahn all topping off a stellar line-up.

Writers Stefanie Preissner, Paul Howard, Cat Hogan, Eithne Shortall, Sinead Crowley, Sally Rooney, along with Waterford Whispers News Founder Colm Williamson and more all take part in Waterford Writers Weekend.
