21 patients waiting on trolleys across South-East

Twenty-one patients across the region are currently on trolleys, awaiting a hospital bed.

That's according to latest figures from the IMNO, whose trolly watch says over a half of those patients are in St Luke's General in Kilkenny alone.

The Marble City facility has seen a rise of two patients looking for beds in the last week and a half, while across the South-East the figure has dropped by six.

University Hospital Waterford has had the highest decrease, with just two patients left waiting on a bed in the Emergency Department, while Wexford General is also down on its figure in mid-August, with eight patients now requiring a bed in a ward.

Tipperary University Hospital (ex-South Tipperary General Hospital) has no patients waiting on beds, while all 21 patients are waiting on beds in the Emergency Department alone.

Cork University Hospital, in contrast, has 44 patients waiting on beds, while Letterkenny University Hospital has 34 patients outside the Emergency Department sitting on a trolley at present.

University Hospital Limerick is next worst, with 37 waiting on a bed.

Overall there are 332 patients nationwide sitting on trolleys in hospitals.
